“Power”
Oil on linen 140 x 100 cm
The scene is one we have witnessed before, some small pan in the dry Zambezi Valley, more of a mud bath than a drinking spot. A place where elephants and Buffalo like to roll and cover their bodies in a coating of mud to protect themselves from flies and cool off. The noise made by this huge animal splashing, and the mess he makes as he throws his weight and power around is just fantastic to witness.
I regard elephants to be in so many ways the epitome of wisdom, their strength and presence is unquestionable, their focus on Family is everything, it’s the power of the tribe and the guiding force to the new generations as they come through, that fascinates me.
This is the first of a kind for me, a mixture of Black and white and colour, perhaps to show that in the tough environment that we live in, there is such beauty all around
I have sketched below a part of the scene from Nkupe area in Mana, the iconic Baobab before it collapsed, mainly as reminder of the beautiful cycle that is the life we are privileged to live. Never forget the power of the present and revel in this beautiful thing that we call life, and take in the pureness of those special family moments, they are everlasting and a power that never leaves
Tread Lightly
